We decided to do Kung Fu Hamlet this year when our plans to do Super Mario: the Musical were foiled by our fear of the Nintendo of America litigation team. Everytime I think of Nintendo of America, I think of that guy Howard from the old Nintendo Power magazines as this bow-tied, Bill Gatesian figurehead seated behind a desk with spiky-haired Nester sitting in the office next door rocking out to Zeppelin and playing old-school Nintendo games. Do you remember in Dragon Warrior there was some town where one of the people you talked to was Nester and he was all “Hi, I’m Nester, where am I… No Way!” The year that Dragon Warrior came free with a Nintendo Power subscription was the best year of my life.
